We are a non maintained Special School trying to raise funds to build and equip an Expressive Arts Resource for our profoundly deaf pupils. We would dearly love to start building in the Spring of 2008 but we are currently £250,000 short of our target of £1.3m. This exciting resource would open up the world of music and drama to profoundly deaf children.

    Situation

We are a SEN Specialist School. When we were granted this status the Department of Education and Skills asked us to produce plans to show how we would raise standards in our own school and how we would develop special needs education in the community. We want to do this by building an Expressive Arts Resource that will house drama, music and many other subjects. The centre will resemble a small community theatre with classrooms and meetingrooms that can be used by community groups and businesses. Not only will this develop speaking and listening skills in our pupils and other special needs pupils in the area, it will also provide opportunities to develop catering and hospitality in the school which will greatly enhance the children's employment prospects so crucial to their longterm future.
