We have a successful record of enabling women to send all their children, including all the girls, to school regularly. One important factor is the provision of carefully targeted loans for village women. We need £60 for each woman and usually issue loans to well organized groups of 50. Every group of women is well organized and has a treasurer and secretary. They take joint responsibility for ensuring that every member keeps to the rules, uses the money as intended, and, where possible, re-pays promptly with profit. The joint responsibility helps avoid individuals being under pressure from others to mis-use their loan. In Northern Ghana our work has lead to all children attending school in the villages we help. We want to make this possible in thirty more villages. Once a child has quality education, it is likely to be removed from the poverty trap. So your help with a relatively small sum will improve life chances for future generations as well as the children of today.
