    Situation

Primary Biliary Cirrhosis is a relentlessly progressive and, too often, fatal condition with no known cause or cure. It can cause cirrhosis – or scarring – damaging cells in the organ and impairing its’ function. The Bear Facts provides an opportunity for the PBC Foundation to give information and support to its members and is an essential tool for keeping PBC sufferers up to date with issues around their illness. Funding would allow the PBC Foundation to continue producing this high quality publication, which is a lifeline to sufferers, particularly those who are unable to attend support group meetings and see this resource as their only link with other people with PBC. Members share their experiences of PBC in the letters page and it also gives our medical advisors an opportunity to update people on any aspects of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. Support group meetings are detailed in the magazine, which can save a lot of time and money as it removes the need to mail everyone each time there is a meeting. There are healthy eating recipes included in the publication along with information about merchandise available for fundraising purposes. The Bear Facts magazine is sent to General Practitioners and is displayed in their surgeries, which raises awareness of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis amongst the general public. The Bear Facts costs around £15,000 per edition and is sent out quarterly to members in the UK and across the world.
