The GSA believes the opportunity to undertake study shouldn't be determined by social or financial circumstances. Widening access activities include working directly with young people in schools, supporting prospective students, providing support once they are here.

    Situation

Creative potential is not the preserve of any particular economic or social group. At the GSA we are committed to ensuring opportunities for talented people regardless of their background. We recognise that there are many potential barriers to achieving a place at the Glasgow School of Art, and to completing the course of study, and we are committed to intervening at an early stage to inspire and support potential students.

    Solution

The Glasgow School of Art has a dedicated Widening Access Team that runs a series of programmes to identify those with the talent and potential to benefit from the GSA educational experience; to support applicants and those hoping to apply in advance and during the application process; to provide a smooth transition to studying at the GSA and to support those students throughout their period of study.
