    Situation

STATE SIDE HITS EAST SIDE’ Every summer the countryside around West Linton is filled with shrieks of delight from teenagers. These lucky young people are brought together by the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) for an extraordinary theatre summer camp. This event is particularly special because it not only provides an excellent opportunity for young people to develop performance skills, but also a chance to make friends and share techniques with high school students from across the Atlantic. Scotland has a wealth of talent which requires support and development in the arts. This year’s summer camp is a must with a programme designed to nurture the performer within. Participants can enjoy 9 fun-packed sessions with professional tutors in acting, directing, urban dance, physical theatre or stagecraft. You can try out a variety of skills, pick up tips and learn some of the tricks of the acting trade. Not to mention make valuable contacts with industry professionals. But this is not the only highlight of the programme. Participants will also march in the Edinburgh Fringe Cavalcade and enjoy a packed programme of workshop sessions. Fiona Rogan, Arts Development Officer says ‘SCDA is committed to providing top quality training and so has sourced the best drama tutors possible from all over the county SCDA chairman Colin Peter explains: ‘We have developed an intercontinental relationship with American high schools that visit Edinburgh to perform at the Fringe Festival. It has now become traditional for them to include our Theatre Maker Summer Camp in their programme. So young people aged 12 – 18 from all over Scotland have this unique chance to interact with others who are also interested in theatre. All the participants attend skill building workshops together and also perform for each other.’ Parents and participants who attended the camp last year have also expressed their enthusiasm: ‘It was really exciting and I learnt a lot of new things.’ ‘It was like the main event in my summer.’ ‘A mind blowing experience’, ‘Thank you for giving my kids such a wonderful experience!’
