    Situation

This project is so vital because it will enable us to support our volunteers with training on up-to-date information and therapeutic techniques. The volunteers are the essence of our service, without them it would not exist. The patience, compassion and understanding they show to our clients is unsurpassed. Although they are all qualified counsellors, they give their time to us for free and the least we can do is help them to train in new skills and experience training that will help them in their work with the clients. Sexual abuse is at the high end of counselling and we recognise the intensity of the process our volunteer counsellors go throught with clients. However, through their work lives have been saved and families and relationships brought together. The goal of this project is to improve the experience of our volunteer counsellors by providing ten training days per year for the volunteers to be held across our area of work, South Cumbria, on different topics that they have decided are relevant and interesting to them. We would use highly qualified trainers, with good reputations in order to get the most from the time and funding. The cost would be £5,000 to cover publicity, travel costs, hiring venues, providing refreshments, trainer costs and handouts.
