This campaign has now closed

The Learning Project is a new project, in working with our local Further Education College, we are now offering weekly sessions in numeracy and literacy where the young people can learn in the comfort of their centre, and at a pace and level they feel comfortable with. They are working towards the Adult National Tests, which directly improves employability and options for further and higher education. Other courses are being run and developed within the centre, including a Community Sports Leadership Award offering a level 2 qualification and support in finding work experience and paid employment. Rents received from the college are being allocated towards a “Learners Fund” to support other learners to enrol onto College courses or to pay for equipment and exam fees.

    Situation

Xtrax works daily with young people at risk of educational and employment exclusion. The young people who access our centre have had few or no positive leaning experiences and as a result have few or no qualifications and therefore have few or no employment opportunities. We now provide a daily breakfast service encouraging young people to access services, education and employment. Our young people have disadvantaged backgrounds and many grew up in care. The space 2 learn centre will give young people a relaxing place to learn with comprehensive resources and facilities. They will be able to access informal and accredited learning with a range of subjects. In addition to the young people we see, xtrax works in close partnership with Hastings college, princes trust, and pulse. These partners will make fantastic use of the space to learn centre.
