* The church in UK employs more paid youth workers than the whole statutory sector. * The faith community has more reach into community than any other body * The number of volunteers regularly working with children and young people in churches can be anything from 1 to 100s of people in a single church [my local church has over 190 people with enhanced CRB disclosures - mainly for youth work] * Many churches find it hard to recruit, train, support and employ youth workers - as the issues around best practice, HR etc are not core business for a small church. >> We want to provide a turn key service for local churches who want and need effective professional youth workers but lack time, expertise & cash to do this in a really professional joined up manner.. SAYT has developed and proved a model for helping local churches engage in effective youth work - inside church AND outside church - for we must do both properly Our model * We employ a full time youth worker and train, support, manage and supervise them in a very professional setting. * We second them part time to a church or parish council - who make a contribution towards costs - but get so much more added value and can provide some support and local contacts - without the risk / hassle of directly employing youth workers. Our problem Local churches have plenty of work for a youth worker BUT not enough work [or cash or vision?] to create and salary a full time post. Part time staff simply cannot afford to live here [about the highest house prices in UK] Our solution With some initial funding we can can offer our service at greatly reduced cost - to local churches. Once they see the true value added they will - over time - be able to justify paying say 50% salary costs - but we need your investment now - so we can be the catalyst to take youth and community work to the next level..
