Recovery and rehabilitation for mental illness. We host a group of up to 10 members weekly, receiving one on one support by our trained volunteers. Socialising through games and creative artistic activities helps to devlop a positve sense of worth. Appropriate challenges are set as goals towards increasing reintegration into mainstream life, employment etc. We are looking for a permanent base for Well-come so we can increase our activities .

    Situation

Main needs: After conducting a community profile and liaising with other organisations in the town, we identified a big gap in the help offered to people recovering from mental illness. Mental health issues are a significant issue in Dereham and this has been confirmed by the NHS. At the moment, people with mental illness are likely to have been admitted into Hellesdon hospital and a community psychiatric nurse will visit them for one hour per week. They have the option to attend the Springwell Centre in Dereham for rehabilitation after hospital treatment. Once their treatment comes to an end, the statutory services cease. When they are left in the community on their own, they often relapse. There is no current after treatment support in the Dereham area. We are looking for funding to ensure the project can continue into the future through our building project, and the funding to equip this as required, as well as to cover our weekly running costs for craft, cooking etc.
