The college is converting loft space into 3 self contained flats to provide housing for students with families from the developing world. We want these flats to be accessible for all students and so will be installing a lift in the new tower that will house stairs, laundry facilities and a shower area.

    Situation

This final phase of our expansion to the halls of residence involves the building of a three-storey access tower. This tower will house a lift that will allow students with disabilities to live on campus in our existing rooms or in the new flats. Many of our post graduate students come from developing world areas and are eager to return to their home country to make a difference there. Presently many leave their families behind because accommodation for families is too expensive. We will be able to provide three flats for these students in the loft above our present halls of residence. During the renovations of the existing student rooms the contractors re-enforced the floors, and ran all required wiring to the loft space, which is now ready to complete the flats. The remaining major work to be done is to build the new three-storey access tower.
