Situation
Restoration work has started on the Norman Stonework and the roof, but many medieaval features are still at risk from damp and decay. The services in the Castle are out of date and not compatible with modern requirements. The Castle has been at the centre of most major historic evenst in the UK and America, as the Berkeleys have stong links with America, particularly Jamestown, Virginia and Berkeley California. The Castle remains as it was built, a Norman Marcher Castle, but made more comfortable by 24 generations of Berkeleys living there. Civil War damage is still visible, prevented from being repaired by an Act of Parliament.
