    Situation

The WyndCounselling Service has seen a continued and growing demand for counselling from across the communities of Renfrewshire. The nature and complexity of mental health problems presented by our clients reflect the the pressures and stresses of modern living. Ranging form poverty, to relationship problems and work related stress the need has never been greater. Over the past twelve months the Centre has seen a significant request for counselling for the teen and young person age group particularly in realtion to problems at school or university such as exam stress and bullying. The need to be able to talk through these problems with an adult outside the school/university and family sphere is seen as being at the core of this need. In order to meet this demand the Centre wishes to establish a confidential service specifically aimed at this age group. Meeting this demand will not be simple matter of finding more counsellors to see more clients, but will require a complete strategic re-think in terms of the delivery of our services. Part of this involves seeking funding from statutory bodies such as NHS to help fund those clients referred to us by the GP service. However a greater proportion of our clients are likely to come from self-referral and independent sources such as schools, family and friends, and this project is necessary to enable us to meet those needs effectively and with confidence. The project will involve eveloping our existing volunteer counsellors to meet the specific needs of this age group. We will rquire to expand the number and range of counsellors volunteering to see clients on a regular basi as well as promote our services in more ways and in more places in the community so that young people are aware that they are not alone. Concurrent with this we will require to develop the Board and small staff team to ensure that their skills and talents are used and enhanced for the benefit of this new initiative.
