Young people from the widest possible range of backgrounds are encouraged to enjoy adventure under sail with Ocean Youth Trust South. Bursary funding of around £150,000 a year ensures that no-one is excluded from sailing on grounds of cost.

    Situation

Ocean Youth Trust aims to subsidise the true cost of our voyages so that the majority of young people pay no more than half the cost - £65 per person per day instead of £130. This main bursary funding came to £121,180 in the 2007 sailing season, or an average of £277 per person. In addition, the charity aims to offer further bursaries to deserving and disadvantaged young people who still cannot afford voyage prices, ranging from small bursaries or help with travel costs right up to 100% funding in exceptional cases. In 2007, OYT South gave special bursaries amounting to £25,336.75 to 186 people (average £136.22 each).
