    Situation

Wakefield Wildcats Community Trust will provide a structure for sports development across the city and surrounding areas. The 'Wakey, Wakey, Rise & Shine' programme will increase participation for boys and girls at grassroots level and improve pathways for the gifted and talented. This will also lead to creation of employment through the training and education of coaches. Schools Coaching: Primary schools across Wakefield, Pontefract & Normanton will receive coaching in a range of varied sports ie. Rugby League, Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Athletics, Football & Multi Skills (Agility, Balance & Co-ordination) Secondary schools will receive the opportunity to attend an optional after school club in the sports named above. Extra Curricular (After school): Coaching is received to a select group of pupils to further improve their skill level via additional coaching. Community Clubs: There will be clubs that pupils can attend on evenings or weekends that allow competitive matches against other clubs from the region. Again, this allows the students a further opportunity to develop existing skills learned within the school environment. A portion of the money generated from the schools coaching will be pushed towards engaging disadvantaged youths in sport (poverty stricken or abused). 'Rising Stars - Wakefield': High quality pupils will be given the chance to excel within sport. Generally their development is hampered due to coaching sessions being designed to cater for the least able person. This will bring together potential future sporting achievers and progress their skill base. Crime reductive projects: Will be undertaken in conjunction with the local council and police force. Specific crime ridden areas will be targetted to work with and projects will be run under the guidance of Wakefield Wildcats Community Trust. All coaches are qualified to Level 2 or working towards. A link with the local Wakefield College will allow students to attain a qualification and will be employed on a casual basis whilst undergoing tuition and mentoring from the Wakefield Wildcats Community Trust. All coaches and assisting persons will be CRB approved to Enhanced level. Areas covered: * Healthy schools assemblies * Coaching sessions * After school clubs * Holiday coaching camps * Mini school festivals * City wide cup competition Gifted and Talented * Development centres * Area representative teams * City representative teams Boys and girls attending the after school clubs will receive information and advice relating to eating a healthy balanced diet, the importance of regular exercise and warned about the dangers of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. Gifted and talented children will have opportunities to progress, but only if they have a good attendance record at school and are making an effort to attain higher levels of academic work.
