A circle for carers and the cared for where carers can support each other and care for other 'cared for' people allowing the carer to have free time to themselves. The circle operates on reciprocation between carers. Ensures a cost free way to have a sitting service in a safe and familiar place.

Situation
There is a significant gap in service provision for carers in Mid Devon. There used to be a subsidised token system in place but this has been withdrawn. Research shows that in Mid Devon over a third of carers provide 50 plus hours a week and 12% give a 100 hours or more. Data identifies this group as at high risk of suffering from mental health problems.
Solution
We propose a system where carers and their 'cared for' buddy up in pairs to support each other through a circle system. The circle consists of 2 pairs of buddies who will work from one of their homes. So there are 2 carers and 4 cared for in each session. A 3 hour sitting session will be available. We will appoint a coordinator to buddy match, circle match carry out home assessments and induction for carers.
