    Situation

The Oska Bright Film Festival, the world’s first film festival for learning disabled people, managed by learning disabled artists and film-makers is a Carousel initiative. We facilitate a committee of learning disabled film makers and artists from the South East region to run the festival and tour the winning films across the UK and Ireland. The steering committee represents Carousel’s ongoing commitment to support the representation of people with learning disabilities in all aspects of the organisation affording this historically marginalized group the opportunity to make choices about their lives and their interests. The films from Oska Bright 2007 are now going On the Road across the UK. The Need for the Project The Oska Bright Film Festivals have received amazing feedback, and support from people across the UK. Film is a very accessible medium for people with learning disabilities and an excellent way for them to share their stories, interests and concerns. Oska Bright has allowed film makers from around the country to express their unique talents, allowing each one of their voices to be heard. The Objectives of Oska Bright •To provide a national platform for film makers who have learning disabilities, enabling them to show their films at an event managed by people who have a learning disability •To disseminate the work of learning disabled film makers through a national programme of screenings presented by steering committee members. •To run film making workshops alongside the touring screenings to encourage people with a learning disability to try film-making.
