Situation
The historic town of Taybeh can be traced back 5,000 years. In the Old Testament it is mentioned 11 times (as Ofra; later Ephraim). In the 12th century the Muslim ruler Saladin (Salah Eddin) visited the Christian village and appreciated the hospitality of the people so much he called them 'Taybeh'- the good; a name which has been kept until today. Taybeh is famed for its olives and wine grapes, soap and beer factories, but the Christian population has been in decline because of a lack of infrastructure and jobs. The concept of a Christian Heritage Centre would bring tourism and work to Taybeh and help to re-establish its heritage and religious values, as well as invest in job opportunities for the town's 3,000 remaining residents. A 'peace altar' (or monument) would also be an attraction of great significance for tourism. and a Voice of Ephraim radio station would call back believers to the Land. The total budget for this unique concept is 114,000 pounds.
