Geese would like support to develop a greater on-line presence to compliment our work with offenders. The idea would allow us to create a content management system and resources which could be used by prison staff and prisoners as continuation and development work following a creative project.

    Situation

Geese aims to reduce the problem of offending, by using theatre as a tool for personal development and change. Home Office figures state 67.4% of all prisoners are reconvicted within 2 years, for young men aged 18-21 the figure is 78.4%. This accounts for half of all crime. Geese works across the UK delivering a range of projects, but our time with offenders is often time-limited. We may work with prisoners for 5 days, achieving a high level of work, and then leave to work elsewhere.

    Solution

As an example 'Re-connect' is Geese’s practical, 3 day creative project aimed at offenders prior to release exploring the issues around re-connecting with life outside prison. Research by Birmingham University demonstrates that the project has a ‘positive impact’ on participants. We believe this could be improved by enabling prison staff to have access to pre and post resources and prisoners to be able to further develop skills and practise strategies they have experienced on the project
