Where Next Association

Where Next Hub

It was set up following a successful pilot project to provide life-enhancing leisure, learning and social opportunities for people with learning disabilities (mild to profound and multiple disabilities), other special needs and their parents and carers. People urgently needed community activities.

Situation

Redditch needs affordable, flexible, person-centred, local services for people with special needs and parents and carers. Individuals are becoming isolated, with less money to spend on activities and little or no social opportunities, particularly those suitable for people with special needs. Two nearby Day Centres have closed. All Redditch centres will also close or move to Bromsgrove where they care only for those with profound needs. Funding for daytime support is being reduced.

Solution

Where Next Hub activities are tailored specifically for people of varying learning and physical needs. 1-2 hours long they include dance, singing, crafts, music, keep fit or social opportunities. Individuals participate as required. Sessions are affordable. There is no application process or ongoing financial commitment. Specialist disabled toilet facilities cater for those with multiple needs not available at other venues. Help and support to parents and carers is available in business hours.
