LYC works directly with hundreds of young people each year and offers a portfolio of opportunities aimed at a wide range of interests. There are two groups for participants; the younger group is for 14-16 years olds and the older group is for 17-19 year olds. We provide young people with the chance to gain recognition through arts based training, have fun and meet other young people their age in a safe place where they feel at ease to express their opinions, learn in a creative environment and embrace new challenges. Throughout the course of a year, Lyric Young Company provides over 4,000 opportunities for young people to participate in numerous ways. We provide regular workshops, one-off events, discounted tickets and backstage access giving young people the chance to engage in creative activities that will boost confidence and develop thinking in new ways. Young people involved in LYC receive support from members of the Lyric’s Creative Learning department; peer mentors, a key skills coordinator and a personal advisor from Connexions who will ensure that all relationships are monitored and nurtured. As an Arts Awards and City & Guilds Centre, the Lyric offers accreditation as part of this project, providing educational qualifications that make a real difference to the lives of LYC members.
