We wish to build an activity hall adjacent to our cay care centre. This would provide a large space capable of being temporarily sectioned into smaller areas, which could accomodate a variety of user led activities and gentle sports. We could also hold cinema and theatre shows and it would be a source of revenue which could be ploughed back into the main charitable activities.

    Situation

The Activities Hall:  This will be a multipurpose space capable of being sub-divided so that different activities may take place at the same time, such as gentle sports and exercise and pottery and other craftwork.  There will be a very large storage space so that the equipment for a wide variety of activities can be stored for use when required.  An adjacent conservatory could also be built which will provide a quiet area that will serve many purposes. It will provide a pleasant area for sitting, reading, chatting or snoozing and board games can take place here.  It will look out over a paved patio area onto a landscaped bank providing a sensory garden area to be enjoyed.  The glazed area will then become a linking unit between the current bathroom annex and the new Activity hall.  This development will in effect establish a “One Stop Shop” for elderly people in an area of Gloucestershire that is physically isolated because of its geographical position.  The Activity Hall will have as many as 200+ users per week as it will also be available for evening use.  Younger disabled people will find the environment more attractive and we plan to encourage the exchange of skills between the younger and older members.  Importantly, the activities here will help the elderly members of our centre to integrate more fully into the community, e.g. short mat bowls competitions  The day centre will then be able to provide more facilities for all groups within older age bands.  Whilst we provide any voluntary carers with modest support at the moment, the Activity hall will widen the scope of what we can offer and help to decrease the isolation that these individuals experience. We therefore consider that there is a strong social importance to the development of this hall. There is also an important financial dimension. Anyone using the Activities hall will also become a member of the Centre, receiving the same benefits as all other members and paying an identical daily fee. Not only will this provide extra income immediately but it is expected that such individuals will become long term members as they need increasing support.
