We have a plot of land adjacent to our Day Care Centre that is crying out to be used as a garden/conservatory area. Because of the nature of our users we would like to make this into a sensory garden.

    Situation

We have an unused plot of land alongside our therapy annex which originally was to have a conservatory built on it. However due to lack of funds this has had to be shelved. It would therefore, be a marvellous area for a sensory garden for our disabled users. Planned well the conservatory could still be erected at some stage, when funds allowed, making the whole area accessible all year round. As the disablities of our users are wide ranging - from wheelchair users to partially sighted, to deaf- this area could include all the sights, sounds, touch, smells etc that these people are unable at present to enjoy. It is envisaged that we would have the sound of running water from a small pond area - a pergola with highly scented flowers growing over it to perfume the air - plants that have different leafy textures etc. We would also like to include raised beds so that wheelchair users will be able to assist in the planting and tendering, should they wish to. The dream goes on!
