Most of the young people who attend our programmes have become disengaged from ‘mainstream’ education and have first hand experience of the criminal justice system. The charity endeavors to create a secure and safe learning environment where the educational and emotional needs of each individual are addressed and the opportunity for progression is maximised. Key to our success are ‘rewards’ for effort, enthusiasm and good behaviour. We aim to positively reinforce individual achievement and positive progression with hands on driving experiences. ‘Driving days’ add relevance to classroom and workshop learning and provide the opportunity to underpin key aspects of the syllabus such as: teamwork; citizenship and life skills. Moreover, these events enable our staff to engage with young people at a deeper level and thereby address such as substance abuse, criminality and antisocial behaviour. We are currently seeking funding in order to be able to able to expand our programme of positive activities for young people by: Establishing an after school / weekend project offering the opportunity to design, build and drive a track car. This will involve tuition in vehicle mechanics, fabrication and vehicle safety systems. The activity will also involve the use of I.T. and teamwork skills. On completion of the construction of the project, young people mill be given the opportunity to engage in driver training at a local airfield in conjunction with West Mercia Police Driving School and Worcestershire Road Safety Team. Those taking part will engage in a programme of ‘driver awareness’ relating to road safety and responsible citizenship. i.e. the dangers and effects of poor / illegal use of motor vehicles.
