    Situation

The kitchen fittings are 25 years old, are not in good condition and are in urgent need of replacement (as our Environmental Health Officer recommends) to comply with current health, safety and hygiene regulations. A quotation for the work totalling £15528 has been received. Without this complete refurbishment, the kitchen will close. Without use of the kitchen, the Resource Centre would likely be forced to close its doors. Without Gloucester House there will be no suitable alternative local resource centre for the older people of Melton Mowbray and surrounding area to visit. These include older people needing Mental Health services, Frail / Elderly and Learning Difficulty groups. (120 people each week) Two new care rooms were built at Gloucester House in 2008, resulting in a minimum of an extra thirty people using the premises each day. This was because of the closure of the local county council day centres for the elderly. The pressure to provide better kitchen facilities is thus increased dramatically.
