    Situation

Fast Forward is for people from Notting Hill Housing’s supported housing schemes who have been street homeless, spent their youth in care or whose lives have fallen apart due to mental illness. We have housed them in shared supported accommodation and worked with them to get them back on their feet. They are now ready to live independently but risk becoming institutionalised if they have to stay where they are. Unfortunately there is generally only one route out – the long wait for your name to come up for a permanent social housing flat. Many just give up because of the lack of housing opportunity and end up back on the streets, but not all of these people need ‘a home for life’. They need an opportunity to find out what it is like to manage in a place of their own, get a job to support themselves and become a regular member of the community. Our plan offers those who are ready and motivated the opportunity to make a better life for themselves. It’s a two-way contract. For a period of up to five years, we at Notting Hill will provide a home, individual training and a support package that gives them a real chance to improve their prospects of independence. They in turn will commit to a training and work plan leading to an actual job, to paying their rent and bills and keeping the flat in good order.
