There is a significant need for this project in Cardiff as Young Carers are a highly vulnerable but relatively un-recognised group. Their position as carers can expose them to pressures that often lead to poor physical and mental health which may hinder their personal development. As children and young people it can be difficult for them to understand and negotiate for their own needs and rights. The Time 4 Me Project will support and empower them to do this, as they have the right to be involved and consulted in any decision that affects their lives and the lives of those requiring care. Time 4 Me will allow young carers the opportunities to: • Access a project that is dedicated to supporting their identified needs • Access welcome respite from their caring duties in the forms of outings, activities, leisure facilities and a befriending network • Have 1 to 1 key-worker support (where appropriate) • Be able to talk to someone who will listen • Receive support for themselves and their families by accessing services that are appropriate to them • Have an advocate within their families and someone to liaise on their behalf with statutory and voluntary sector organisations • Meet other young carers in informal settings and peer support • Receive vital support, information and advice • Be part of a Young Carers Forum that gives them a chance to be consulted, and be able to express their own opinions about issues that affect their lives • Be given every opportunity to fully develop as individuals • Be given the opportunity to have fun! The Time 4 Me project is a peripatetic service that will allow access to Young Carers from the whole of the County of Cardiff.
