The pressures on young people in todays inner city are immense. Lack of opportunities to access facilities and for affordable activities prevent them from having safe places to socialise or develop key skills needed for their personal development outside of school. To meet this demand we seek to provide a youth facility and a range of activities to engage young people to help them develop the key skills required for adulthood and tackle issues of anti social behavior and risk of criminal activity that they face on a daily basis.

    Situation

Our activities programme provides opportunities for sports, arts, social education and personal development. All activities are based around and responsive to the needs and demands of young people and have as a focus the aim of increasing confidence, communication skills and reducing anti social behaviour. Working in partnership with a number of agencies we are able to provide a wide range of specialist activities and provide advice on education and employment as well as provision of information and guidance concerning matters of health, racism, drugs and alcohol. Current activities include Youth Clubs (12 – 21 year olds) – 5 evenings a week; Weekend sports activities and sports coaching (7 – 21 year olds); Muslim Youth group and Five a side football league participation (7 teams aged 7 -18 years) – evening and weekends. We seek to ensure that the project is informed by local provision, complements other existing services in the area and that our provision is aimed at meeting the following outcomes – • Be healthy – children and young people are healthy and confident, with opportunities for enjoyable exercise and sport • Stay safe – children and young people feel safe, on the street, in and around their neighbourhood and at school. • Enjoy and achieve – children and young people use their abilities to their full, achieve their ambitions, enjoy and make the most of their education, have access to play, cultural and other opportunities which are high quality and accessible. • Make a positive contribution – children and young people are able to contribute to and play an active part in the local community. • Achieve economic well-being – children and young people have access to training and personal development opportunities for life long learning and security from poverty.
