Cancer Care remains a lottery in many parts of the country and within some key areas highlighted by NICE, a great deal more work needs to be done to improve levels of care. This includes information supply and communication of need, pyschological support, complementary therapy and group support. KickStart is a three year tapering grant programme offered across the UK to raise levels of care for all those living with cancer.

    Situation

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence published a major report in March 2004, highlighting key areas of cancer care in which progress still needs to be made. KickStart will seek to improve service in a number of areas and will be available across the UK. Full details will be announced in early 2008, however it is likely that grants will be offered in areas including; a) information supply b) complementary therapy c) pyscholsocial support d) group and individual peer support The grants will be overseen by a world class Advisory Panel, details of whom are available on response.
