Overall Aim of the Project: More diverse communities and volunteers engaged in the practical improvement of the Water of Leith’s environment. The three year development programme will enable us to increase community participation on the river, reach new groups from target areas, improve access, extend our education services and keep the river clean and green, improving habitats for wildlife and the maintenance of heritage sites.

    Situation

    The project will help to resource our operations by; ensuring the employment of a Community and Volunteer Officer, providing Personal Protective Equipment for practical activities, purchasing of tools, assisting with expenses and administration costs. The outsomes are as follows: Deliver a practical improvement of the river environment through community and volunteer participation. 40 events p.a. with 6000 hours of involvement Positive diverse volunteer involvement in all areas of the Trust's work; focus on youth, oap, minority groups, people with special needs / mental health problems. Foster partnerships projects with other organisations working with disadvantaged groups, to raise awareness of and practically improve the river’s environment. 2 partnership projects p.a. Promote and demonstrate how local community action has a positive benefit on wildlife, our environment, and our communities
