The 2007 season introduced major changes at the theatre in Holland Park - a new canopy and padded, comfortable seats were paid for. However, the costs of setting up and tearing down the structure at the beginning and end of each season need to be financed. These costs amount to around £90,000 each year. The Friends contribute towards this cost and an Endowment Fund continues to need funds totalling £700,000. £200k has been raised so far.

    Situation

The new, larger and improved canopy is 1200 to 1600 square metres of high tensile fabric which also covers Holland House. this ensures that both audiences and performers remain dry when the weather is less than perfect. The seats are not only wider, but more deeply upholstered, with armrests and an additional six inches of legroom to give greater comfort. The cost of the new theatre is approximately £1 million. The capital funding for the new canopy and seating has been met by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The annual interest costs, together with the cost of set up and tear down will be paid by Opera Holland Park. These costs amount to £90,000 per year and represent a heavy financial burden. These costs could limit artistic development and endanger the constantly improving, high quality of the opera. To ensure the drive for excellence continues, we need your support. We are working towards our 15th Anniversary in 2011 and Our 15th Anniversary Fund will raise funds towards the Endowment and a Legacy Fund to cover the annual costs of taking up and tearing down the new structure. All monies donated will be placed in a special account from which the annual interest will be made available to the opera company. Launched in June 2007, we already have £200,000.
