    Situation

Formed in 1935 the Society serves an estmated 4,000 sight impaired people in North Yorkshire. We have developed and implemented new services and a Resource Centre over the last 17 years using our own funds. Our reserves are now very low and it is difficult to attract core funding to pay the salaries of our staff. We manage with 3 fulltime and one part time staff offering services such as social and activity groups, a resource demonstration area, library, gym, benefit and welfare advice and most importantly I.T. tuition. We can only afford to employ our I.T. tutor for 20 hours a week, but demand for this service is growing and we will shortly reach the stage of having to turn people away or keep them on a waiting list. We'd love to find a benefactor who could offer us financial help to keep these vital services alive for sight impaired people in the areas of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Malton, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley and all associated rural area.
