Carers Engagement Project

To help and support family carers make a difference to their lives, by engaging with and challenging statutory agencies involved with their health and well-being. The Engagement Project will identify and support carer representatives able and prepared to 'fight their corner' for carers rights in Sandwell.

This Project is needed by family carers in Sandwell to improve both the quality of their lives and the lives of the people they look after. Positive involvement and engagement in processes of service development and review will help improve both service delivery and quality. The Project wil strive to identify and develop carer representatives improving the effectiveness of representatives and enabling them to make a difference to the lives of the people they look after. The Project will undertake training and support sessions with carers improving their representational skills, will help carers to develop intervention techniques and effective meeting skills and will enable carers involved with the Project to 'speak out' in support of both their needs and those of the people they look after. The budget identified includes the salary costs (part time - 1 year) of an engagement and support worker, training and support costs of the carer representatives, transport and expenses of the representatives , together with the office and incidental costs of the Project.
