The aim of this project is to create an early years workshop that will give young children an exciting first experience of a museum. They will experience a mix of hands-on discovery, artefact investigation and imaginative storytelling. We want to give children the confidence to become life-long museum visitors. The project will support curriculum guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage and will meet early learning goals including: Communication, language and literacy - speaking and listening, responding to songs, stories and rhymes Personal, social and emotional development - inspiring curiosity and confidence in using museums Knowledge and understanding - investigating a museum artefact and exploring the galleries Creative development - using media and materials such as crayons, paints, scissors, words, sounds, movement, props and make-believe The programme will run once a month for local families and childminders as well as being a pre-bookable workshop for pre-schools and nurseries on request. The cost of delivering this project will be £3,000 per annum. This is a new programme and does not form part of our core provision to local schools.
