    Situation

Many of the children who are referred to Sunfield have profound autism and have complex sensory issues which can distract or prevent them from engaging in education, sometimes to the extent of refusing to go to school or exhibiting behaviours which make engagement in education very difficult, distracting and sometimes dangerous for other children, staff and the child. Sensory Integration Therapy has been found to be an effective strategy for reducing behaviours viewed as 'non-engagement' and form increasing 'engaged' behaviour. We are therefore developing a range of resources to promote sensory integration. The total cost of this project is £204,000 comprising: Sensory Integration Therapy Room - £113,000 Snoezelen sensory room - £16,000 Outdoor sensory play area - £50,000 Sensory garden - £25,000 (this has already been funded)
