This campaign has now closed

CWT has recently (Nov 2007) published an evidence based report which for the first time summarises the evidence relating food and nutrition to health and well being for people with learning disabilities. Everyone is now crying out for the practical translation of this guidance into simple materials for support workers but as we have had no funding for this project we have no money left to do this!

    Situation

CWT has established an excellent reputation for producing clear and evidence based practical and nutritional guidance for vulnerable population groups in the UK - and we are the only organisation that does this nationally and independently in most cases. We try to produce an evidence based report - and then translate this information into really practical advice and we would love to do this for people who support children and adults with learning disabilities. CWT is willing to provide the expertise to write the materials without cost, but we require funds to produce the materials themselves and we estimate it will cost about £30,000 to produce edited and designed materials that will be of use throughout the UK to the high quality and standard that we are known for. We will work with people with learning disabilities and their supporters in the production of these materials. Additional funding could be used to roll out training across the country (as we have previously done with work on looked after children) and to provide free materials to user groups across the UK. The need for clear and simple training resources cannot be overestimated: we live in an environment where misinformation about food and nutrition can lead to serious ill health and it is essential that a good resource is available to help those who support the 1.5 million people with learning disabilities across the UK.
