    Situation

Children with hearing impairments are often rejected and socially marginalised by their family and community. The existing farm at the school provides children with vocational skills that will improve their employability but the lack of resources for the farm is limiting the children’s potential. In addition the farm provides some food for the children but the school is heavily reliant on aid for the rest of its provisions.

    Solution

The farm will give valuable opportunities for students to develop their skill sets to help them find employment. The farm will play a significant role in making the school self-sustainable. It will take on local workers currently unemployed. The farm will in time allow the school to become less reliant on external donations and more self-sufficient. This will enable it to control its own future and remain open to the children of Sierra Leone for many years to come.
