Situation

This Grade II* listed factory has been empty since 2003, has no services and is increasingly derelict. It has been on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk register since 2004. Birmingham Conservation Trust has carried out many projects to rescue historic buildings over its 30+ years and to continue its work has identified that establishing a base in this building would improve our sustainability. The contents of the building are in storage and need to be conserved.

Solution

If BCT match the funding already promised from Heritage Lottery Fund, we will undertake conservation repairs to bring the building back into use. Parts of the rear ranges will be let to subsidise the heritage area. BCT will move into the building and establish a base for engaging with local people and develop a body of volunteers. We will deliver a programme of educational heritage activities on site and in conjunction with other heritage attractions in the Jewellery Quarter.
