Families have a very difficult time when they have a child in the hospital for weeks or even months at a time. These stresses manifest in many different ways. Siblings feel neglected, friends feel rejected, parents don't have a chance to talk and the sick child doesn't feel they can be a child doing normal things. The Drop In Centre provides a welcoming, homely space for all the family and friends.
The Drop In Centre has an activity room for children where they can surf safely on the internet, play on the Wii or get involved in art and craft activities with their siblings or friends. The Drop In Centre also provides a lounge area where parents can just make a cup of tea and chat to other parents going through similar problems. Complimentary therapies are also offered in the relaxation room, providing 'downtime' for parents. The hospital saves lives but the Drop In Centre saves families.
