Decision makers, journalists and students all need accurate and up to date information about ethnic diversity around the world. It is important that information about events happening very locally such as rising tensions between two communities or a new campaign of state harassment or oppression are immediately available. MRG has a network of minority organisations worldwide and this project allows us to compile all of the information about their situations and developments into one easily accessible and free online source. We use this to ensure that no one can say that lack of information meant that they did not cover or act on an urgent inter-ethnic situation or minority rights issue.

Situation
We will collect information from our minority partners as well as from official sources and use it to update and add to our global online database. All information needs to be assessed, analysed and double checked to ensure that the database is 100% accurate and reliable – this can be difficult in a field when even basic data such as the number of people of a particularly ethnicity can be hotly disputed. Events such as elections, coups, conflicts and other major developments will trigger a rapid update, but all countries will be reviewed and updated periodically.
