    Situation

Women in Uganda are at an educational disadvantage to men and levels of violence against women are high. Women are nearly four times more likely to have no formal education, and more likely to drop out of school before completing primary education. 6 in 10 women have experienced violence at least once. Sexual slavery and prostitution is linked to physical trauma, severe mental illness, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) including HIV and early pregnancy amongst adolescent girls and women.

    Solution

Our partner, FEWODE, will establish, organise, train and facilitate Village Budget Clubs (VBCs) to act as watchdogs in communities on issues of girls’ education and domestic violence. FOWODE will support judicial, health and probation services to respond to domestic violence cases through training and provision of communication equipment. Communities in the two districts will be organized and sensitized about the Domestic Violence Act (DVA) and will develop local solutions to domestic violence
