In Tanzania FGM is a real danger for women and girls. It is a violation of their human rights. It leads to serious health problems and even death. Early and forced marriage devastates the lives of women. These practices are part of a culture in which violence against women is commonplace. But our partner Women’s Legal Aid Centre (WLAC)is working to change this.

For these practices to end women must know their rights, communities must support them and justice services must be fair. WLAC will teach women their rights and make sure the most vulnerable women and girls are supported to access them. They will make communities aware of the need to end violence against women, make sure the police know their responsibilities and carry them out and provide legal advice to women in refugee camps and nearby communities.
