To promote the safe riding of bikes in Cardiff. This will be done by setting up the cycle safe bike project in partnership with the YMCA Ccommunity Outreach team. A bike club will be launched with cycle training, cycle maintaniance and bikes given to asylum seekers and refugees in .good repair.

Situation

Asylum seekers arriving in Cardiff buy bikes that are not in a good state of repair and also do not know the laws regarding bike riding. Many having been given fines which they are unable to understand or afford. Many of the bikes are not safe as people do not have the knowlege and tools to repair them. Safe bike routes are also not known and people often do not ride their bikes safely or with the correct equipment. There re also no chances for all ethnic backgorunds and ages to ride for f

Solution

Donated bikes will be fixed into good order and given to asylum seekers and refugees on long term loans. Training on cycle safety will be given where possible in their own language included in this is the laws regarding cycling. A space for repairs as well as training will be given wih the oppurtunity to volunteer to learn maintainance. The correct visabllity equipment will be given to individuals. The bike club will organise rides to improve skills, independance, health and integration.
