Situation

Too often these events are inaccessible to people with visual impairments, thus depriving them of an experience that sighted family and friends can enjoy. There has been a great deal of interest in architecture and the built environment in recent years, and one of VocalEyes' patrons felt it was time that blind and partially-sighted people had the chance to participate in events like London Open House and the London Festival of Architecture.

Solution

It will provide complete access to a number of buildings to VIps (Visually Impaired people) and a designated companion. The experience includes access notes and background on a CD, provided in advance to those who book; a live audio-described, guided tour of the building devised by VocalEyes describers, accompanied by the relevant architect or building representative. There is usually the opportunity to touch special architectural features. In this way the VIp will "see" the building.
