The project will produce, screen and distribute twelve episodes of 30-minute life story video documentary films a year from 2012 - 2015 to cover the stories of people of African and Caribbean origins, living and working in Scotland, as told by them. Situation

Very little is known by the general public aside what is carried by mainstream media about Africans in Scotland. This project responds to the question of why on one hand there are activists, who are keen to fight for and protect ‘migrant right’s but often reduce the discourse on migrant stories to legal aspects, and on the other hand the negative discourses in mainstream media that is fueled by misrepresentation, misinformation, as well as racism and other social ills.

Solution

We will create an innovative platform which will allow untold migrant stories be told by individuals themselves. We will partner with various agencies to set up interactive film screening events and invite the general public, policy makers and community leaders to watch these stories and lead discussions that aim at correcting negative perceptions, views and attitudes towards migrants and migrant issues and reinforce positive attitudes and approaches towards migrant issues.
