    Situation

For blind or partially sighted patients admitted to hospital for a typical stay of 5 - 7 days, their options for relieving boredom are much more limited than for sighted patients. Bedside entertainment systems rely on the patient being able to view and select from a flat touch screen menu. Where they may employ adaptive technologies in the home to help ‘feel’ options, there are no raised bumps or braille markings on the current entertainment systems installed, making the system unusable for them

    Solution

We can provide a specially adapted portable FM/DAB radio/audio player and headphones with tape, CD, SD card and USB memory stick facilities to each hospital for use by visually impaired patients. The sets are robust, have contrasting colour controls for those with residual vision, are easy to use without help and have a bookmark facility for those listening to music, talking books or newspapers or other recorded files. V.I. patents will be able to request loan of the set.
