Situation

Many young people fail to find or follow a dream and settle for an unchallenging and unrewarding existence. This can damage their self-worth and result in short temper, cynicism and even physical illness. "People who hold themselves in high esteem are less likely to engage in destructive and self-destructive behaviour including child abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, violence and crime" (BBC health web site, August 2010)

Solution

The project uses the Notivate Singer/Songwriter Programme, which, since 2002 has been experienced by over 2000 young people. Supported by leaders and music professionals, 30 groups of children will attend workshops, studio sessions and residentials, to express their ideas, explore their feelings, try something for the first time and ultimately feel better about themselves. 12 trainees will also be given the chance to gain accreditation as Licenced Notivate Leaders in their own communities.
