As well as wthe world class healthcare that military patients received from the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine at the new QE Hospital Birmingham, the patients' recovery and rehabilitation is aided by having some independence and having contact with the friends, family and colleagues in a non-clinical environment. Previously, they have had to go off site which can be uncomfortable for them, especially when, in many cases, they are struggling to come to terms with their condition.

A new Forces & Family Centre on the site of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital will go a long way to aiding the military patients in their recovery without them having to face the outside world too soon. The new unit will provide an invaluable relaxing, non-clinical space where the patients can go to meet visitors and colleagues over a coffee or lunch, play with ther younger family members on games consoles and other entertainment equipment and listen to music or read a book away from the ward.
