    Situation

The inaccessibility/lack of appeal of more traditional arts offer in Cumbria has been an identified issue for some time. Lakes Alive brought something new in 2009 creating more than 45 events over 3 years involving more than 1500 artists. It has inspired tens of thousands of people, many of whom are new to the arts, building a strong “brand” and loyal following. We want to maintain their interest in the arts and to continue to meet the demand and expectations that Lakes Alive has created.

    Solution

We will develop a bespoke touring package for Summer 2013 of The Banquet for up to 10 locations across Cumbria bringing the highest quality Lakes Alive-style events to towns, villages and hamlets. We line the streets with tables and chairs and intersperse them with performance sites. This creates a social as well as an artistic occasion. Woven into this will be a programme of new commissions from emerging street artists and opportunities for volunteering and skills development for local people.
