The Peace Hospice relies on 650 dedicated local volunteers without whose support we would not be able to function. Our project will enhance volunteer recruitment, management and support and launch a new volunteer-led bereavement service for the elderly and housebound referred through the Hospi

    Situation

There has been a reduction in bereavement support across South West Hertfordshire and an increase in demand evidenced by an increase in referrals. Services which do exist are patchy and in places non-existent. Lack of provision can mean some of the most vulnerable people in the community face a decline in mental and physical health. We need to recruit more volunteers to deliver bereavement services and strengthen our infrastructure to improve support for volunteers across the organisation

    Solution

We will widen access to services by providing one to one emotional and practical support to elderly and housebound and group bereavement support at the Hospice. We will reduce the detrimental consequences of a lack of provision and reinforce the role of volunteering in delivering local health and social care. We will encourage volunteering and build a volunteer force to meet the needs of the Hospice and the aspirations of those seeking to volunteer
