Situation

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Armenia has suffered significant increases in family disintegration, violence within the home, child abandonment, increase in numbers of street children and the number of children in insitutional care. Children abandoned or placed into institutional care are highly and alarmingly susceptible to violence: from staff, from other children, as a guise of treatment and as a form of lack of care.

Solution

World Vision will build the capacity and coordination of state agencies to protect against violence within the current structure and amend domestic law to align with international child rights norms (based on Articles 19 and 20 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) and seek implementation of these norms. We will work with state bodies responsible for child protection outside of institutional care facilites and also for childcare inside institutional care.
